SMTC Completes ITAR Registration
June 23, 2016 | SMTC CorporationEstimated reading time: 1 minute
EMS firm SMTC Corp.'s San Jose manufacturing facility has completed International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) registration and is in compliance with ITAR. The ITAR is administered by the U.S. State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, which controls the export and import of defense articles and services. ITAR registration and compliance is a key strategic achievement for SMTC and builds upon the company’s commitment to supporting its growing list of aerospace and defense industry customers by complying with the Arms Export Control Act (AECA). As an ITAR-registered company, SMTC has met the corporate procedures and control requirements for compliance to fully participate as an approved supplier for a wide variety of military, aerospace, and Homeland Security applications and programs in the United States.
"Taking the necessary steps to safeguard our customers’ sensitive, defense-related data is as important to us as it is to them. We want them to be assured that our business methods provide them the security they need," said Sushil Dhiman, president and CEO of SMTC. "The company's ITAR registration and compliance demonstrates SMTC’s full commitment to its aerospace and defense based customers, and provides them with a reliable and established source for ITAR controlled programs."
SMTC has become the manufacturing partner of a choice for companies that want to manufacture the highly complex electronic and electro-mechanical devices used in highly regulated environments from rugged defense environment high-tech security applications.
"Our North American manufacturing capabilities and services enable customers to engage with SMTC at the early development stage of new products for quick-turn prototyping and NPI (new product introduction), with the valuable ability to take their product to mass production with post-production services – all within one manufacturing facility. Our flexibility, responsiveness, and engineering expertise on cost reduction solutions through our DFx (design for excellence) services and test development support that we have accumulated over the years ensures that we consistently meet and exceed our customers' expectation," added Dhiman.
